Dr. Moeketsi Joseph Makhema, Chief Executive Officer of the Botswana Harvard Health Partnership (BHP), has been appointed Adjunct Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine within the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Botswana.

The appointment is a testament to Dr. Makhema’s distinguished contributions to clinical medicine, research, training and capacity building, and public health in Botswana and beyond. He has led numerous studies that have informed health guidelines and policies, shaping the healthcare landscape both nationally and globally.

Dr. Makhema’s appointment is expected to further strengthen the long-standing collaboration between the University of Botswana and BHP, particularly in research, clinical training, and the mentorship of future medical professionals. BHP continues to contribute to the university’s postgraduate output through its Capacity Building and Training Initiative, which sponsors and co-supervises Master’s and PhD students registered with UB and other regional universities under various training grants.

In addition to his research achievements, this position represents a significant academic honour for Dr. Makhema. His new role will further amplify his influence on medical education and policy development in Botswana
