Prof. Catherine Koofhethile, Principal Investigator and Senior Research Scientist, Kevin Moshoeshoe, Grants Manager, and Dineo Thebe, Director of Operations, participated in a Grant Writing Workshop held from 22–25 September 2025 in Entebbe, Uganda. The workshop was organized by the Good Grant Practice Virtual Academy (GGP-VA) Program, which seeks to strengthen capacities of African institutions in grant management, governance, and sustainability through training (in-person and self-paced courses through the Virtual Learning Academy), technical assistance, and a community of practice. It is implemented by the African Population and Health Research Center, a premier research institution seeking to drive change by developing strong African research leadership and promoting evidence-informed decision-making (EIDM) across sub-Saharan Africa.

The workshop brought together over 40 participants from research and non-research institutions across Africa. The Grant Writing Workshop sought to build on the skills and expertise of participants in grant proposal development. The workshop is practical, product-oriented, and participants were expected to develop concept notes and present them before the end of the session. It was held parallel to the East Africa Research Innovation and Management Association (EARIMA) 7th Annual Conference under the theme “Driving Research and Innovation for Socio-economic Transformation.”

For BHP, participation in this conference-workshop is a crucial part of the organization’s journey toward a GOLD Tier certification of the Good Financial Grant Practice (GFGP), enhancing networking, collaboration, and strengthening internal institutional culture.
