The Fogarty International Center at the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) is dedicated to advancing the NIH mission by supporting and facilitating global health research conducted by U.S. and international investigators, building partnerships between health research institutions in the U.S. and abroad, and training the next generation of scientists to address global health needs.

The Fogarty International Center at NIH offers funding to support global health research. Fogarty also offers a variety of resources for those seeking global health research funding across NIH, and from other organizations. It supports a diverse mix of research projects in sub-Saharan Africa with significant activities in approximately 20 African countries including Botswana.

The role of the Fogarty International Center among others include developing the scientific workforce, fostering collaborative global networks and harnessing promising research approaches. Fogarty's programs provide funding to perform research and to train researchers in a variety of global health areas.  BHP has taken advantage of the Fogarty funding opportunities to apply for different grants to support research projects carried out BHP trainees (Graduate Students and Post-Doctoral).
