Capacity building at BHP focuses on training and mentoring of students and early career investigators performing mentored research; clinical teaching of residents, fellows and medical students at Scottish Livingstone Hospital; and professional training of all cadres of BHP staff. A vibrant group of research fellows at various stages of training are working on projects that are of public health importance in Botswana, across the region and globally. Senior laboratory and clinical investigators serve as mentors to the research fellows, often in collaborative mentorship teams with one another and with other international collaborators. Fellows pursuing MS and PhD degrees are registered with various academic institutions including University of Botswana (UB), Botswana International University of Science and Technology (BIUST), Stellenbosch University, University of Cape Town, University of Witwatersrand, University of Kwazulu Natal, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, and the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.
