BHP Meets Vice President Gaolathe

On April 9, 2025, BHP leadership paid a courtesy call to His Honour the Vice President, Mr. Ndaba Gaolathe, who also serves as Minister of Finance. The team, led by CEO Dr. Joseph Makhema, shared BHP’s role in advancing health research and training in Botswana, while highlighting concerns around funding uncertainty due to global geopolitical shifts. 

Dr. Makhema called for expedited government action to help Botswana join the European & Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership (EDCTP ) Association an essential step for accessing vital research funding. 

The VP applauded BHP as a centre of excellence and assured support: “Let me know how I can assist whether it’s institutions you’d like me to speak to, I’m happy to facilitate.” BHP continues to champion science, innovation, and capacity building for a healthier Botswana.
